A Spirit Of Infirmity
We know from the gospel of Luke that Jesus dealt with an infirmity caused by a spirit (a demon of sickness) for 18 years – Luke 13:11-13. She was bent over from the waist and unable to straighten herself up. When Jesus saw her, He called her to come to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are released from your infirmity.” And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she stood erect. She was made straight, began glorifying and praising God. I will share a real-life testimony of a young woman who was also released from a spirit of infirmity.
One weekday morning, while I was at work, the Holy Spirit prompted me to go to the church. He was bringing someone for prayer. As I drove up to the building, the Wednesday morning prayer time had already started. I entered the prayer room and sat down while the women on the prayer team were ministering to a young woman about 25 years old. While waiting, I heard the voice of the Lord tell me she has a ‘spirit of infirmity’. I went over to her and commanded the spirit of infirmity to bend its knee to the Name of Jesus. She began to cry out, “I will not bend my knee!” This was not the young woman herself speaking out but the demonic spirit in her manifesting its presence. I quietly kept saying, “Bend your knee to the Name of Jesus.”
She began describing the symptoms of her illness. Her pancreas would become infected many times during the year. This infection caused it to swell in her back, with blood and pus coming out. To get relief, she would seek medical help, and the only thing the doctors could do was lance the swollen tissue to drain it and prescribe antibiotics to kill the infection. She would feel normal for a month or two, but then the infection would come back, and the problem started all over again.
Then I understood why this affliction was an ongoing problem. It was caused by a spirit of infirmity that medical help could not fix. We needed to remove that spirit for her to receive healing. As we continued with deliverance, she collapsed to the floor, screaming, “I will not bend my knee! I will not bend my knee!” I had the ladies kneel around her, lay their hands on her, and quietly say, “Come out of her.” In a few minutes, her eyes rolled back in her head; she stopped screaming and lay motionless on the floor. I reached down, took her hand, and asked her to stand up. She responded immediately and stood up. I prayed over her again for protection from the Holy Spirit to cover her so this evil spirit would not be able to come back, making her sick again. The last time I heard from her, no symptoms return; she was completely free, glorifying and praising God.
A vast multitude of people “who had come to listen to Him and to be healed of their diseases, even those who were troubled by unclean spirits (demons) were being healed. All the people were trying to touch Him because [healing] power was coming from Him and healing them all.” Luke 6:18,19 AMP
